The content in my workshop feels boring. How do I make it more exciting and engaging?

Don’t be so hard on yourself. You might think the content is boring and needs more engagement because you’re so closely tied to it and you've been talking about it and working on it for so long. Give yourself a little bit of space and know that this will be new for your students, so they probably won’t feel the same way.

If you want to breathe more excitement and engagement into your content, tell more stories. You can pull from childhood stories, stories where you’ve learned lessons, and stories where you have direct experience with the content you’re teaching — make it more personal. It’s also powerful and inspirational when you share your students’ stories when possible.

You can also use examples like an image or screenshot of something you’re teaching on. These are more tangible than stories and bring the lesson to life because your students can see the concept in use.

On a final note: Here are a few tips that will bring some energy and excitement to your content.

  1. Take the time to review your slides before you go Live. The more familiar you are with the content, the more natural you’ll sound; this will resonate with your students and draw them in.
  2. Smile when you’re talking — it tends to bring more energy to your voice.
  3. Make sure that you’re hydrated and well-rested. Low energy will definitely come across when you’re on camera.
  4. And lastly, have fun with it! Let your personality come through.
