How can I sound more natural and conversational when teaching Live?

Sounding natural and engaging in a live setting takes practice, but the good news is — it gets easier with time! When I first started teaching Live, I felt stiff and scripted, but the more I did it, the more comfortable and confident I became. Here are a few tips to help you sound more natural and conversational:

  • Practice out loud before going live. Run through your key points a couple of times so you feel familiar with them without needing to read word-for-word.
  • Smile while you talk! It might sound silly, but smiling adds warmth and energy to your voice, making you sound more approachable and engaging.
  • Stand or move naturally. If possible, stand up or use hand gestures while speaking — this can help you feel more dynamic and expressive.
  • Engage with your audience. Ask questions, respond to comments, and interact naturally to create a more conversational flow.

Most importantly, set yourself up for success by going into your session feeling mentally and physically prepared — stay hydrated, take deep breaths, and remind yourself that it’s okay if things aren’t perfect. Your audience is there to learn from you, not for a perfectly polished performance. So relax, be yourself, and have fun!
